tober not only holds the promise of falling leaves and cooler weather, it also marks 50 years of beautifully arranged blooms for A Cottage Florist & Gifts in Bowie. “My parents, David and Priscilla Jameson, purchased the business from its original owners in 1969. The intention was for it to be a second business that complemented the photography studio they opened two years earlier. From the very first moment and at the young age of eight, I knew without a doubt I was destined to someday be a florist,” says current Owner and Operator, Carrie Aune. As the years passed and with what Carrie testifies as God’s many blessings, she and her husband, Bob officially took the shop reins in 2003 from her retiring parents.
When we asked what has been her favorite part of this journey, Carrie replied, “Making others smile! Whether a joyful celebration or a time of sadness, each and every day we are able to bring happiness to life with the reality of God’s beautiful creations.” Faith is the foundation of their business but honesty, integrity and ensuring overall customer service are the cornerstones.
There’s something definitely unique about the charming white cottage on the corner. It might be little but it’s been sending big smiles for half a century…and we look forward to many more to come!
One thing you might not know about Carrie Aune is despite living her life serving the public and keeping up with every community event, she’s actually a very private homebody at heart. It’s a heart we’re proud to know.
