The legacy of Amon G. Carter Sr., one of Texas’ most influential media moguls and Bowie’s most celebrated native son, will take center stage in his hometown this August.
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the hit award-winning play – AMON! The Ultimate Texan — chronicling the remarkable life and career of Amon G. The true-to-life comedy performance coincides with the 30th Annual Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival, honoring the community’s rich history—and fittingly so, as Carter was one of Bowie’s original “Chicken and Bread Boys.” The play brings to life the powerful story of the man who helped shape Texas through journalism, civic leadership, and business, and who famously said: “Man must not live off his community. He must live with it.”
