One of the high points of the day, for many, while fishing at Amon Carter Lake is a visit to Matilda’s Lakeside Store & RV Park. It’s a place where the small but mighty daily menu and warm welcomes are as comforting as the rocking chairs that line the porch, beckoning you to sit and stay awhile.
The general store is the heartbeat of this tiny town on two acres. Amber Cumbie (Resident Manager), Bibi Sauve (Assistant Manager) and Trina Bradley (Head Chef) work in perfect harmony to make each guest feel like part of the family. Whether it’s grabbing a hot plate of all the breakfast fixings while you wait for your bait or a cold soda while you select the paddle board of your choice, these three ladies will forever remember your name (and your family’s too).
As an official weigh station and only distributor of live bait in the area, the door swings daily with fishermen (and women) who travel from far and wide to fill their coolers with catches (sometimes even making it on the famed photo wall). Many decide to spend the day on the water and the evening across the road, enjoying Matilda’s full RV hookup services (21 spaces with septic, water, electric, free wi-fi, laundry room, shower house, dog park and fuel).
